Overview

Mario's Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Pompei at Via Colle S. Bartolomeo, 73, offers a genuine slice of Italian culinary tradition with a focus on expertly crafted pizza. This family-owned pizzeria warmly embraces its guests, promising not just a meal, but an authentic experience rooted in local flavors and heartfelt hospitality.

The true highlight here is the pizza—each pie boasts an artisanal crust that is light, crisp, and perfectly balanced. The dough, praised by many, carries that signature Neapolitan touch: tender yet sturdy enough to hold generous toppings. Among their standout dishes, the Pizza Fritta Stupenda is a must-try, celebrated for its exceptional dough and rich fillings, delivering an unforgettable taste that defines the essence of southern Italian cuisine. For those with a sweet tooth, the Straccetti Alla Nutella offers a delightful contrast, showcasing how Mario’s excels beyond savory options.

Beyond pizza, Mario's excels in traditional local specialties that reflect the region’s rich culinary heritage. Dishes like arancini gialli e rosse and fried pasta capture the essence of Campanian street food with depth and authenticity. The Neapolitan-style meatball sandwich is another gem, perfect for travelers seeking comfort food with regional flair. The intimate dining space, though modest in size, radiates warmth and a family vibe that complements the meals beautifully.

Situated just steps from the archaeological treasures of Pompeii, Mario's serves as an ideal spot for tourists and locals alike. Its convenient proximity allows guests to enjoy a hearty meal before or after their explorations of the ancient site. The staff's genuine friendliness and willingness to connect—even across language barriers—enhance the welcoming atmosphere.

Mario’s Restaurant is clearly a treasure for those who appreciate real Italian cooking, unpretentious yet extraordinary. Whether you’re savoring a perfectly baked margherita, indulging in creative menu items, or simply soaking in the approachable charm, it promises a robust and memorable taste of Pompei. Visitors looking for authentic flavor and heartfelt service will find a worthy destination here, one that lingers long after the last bite.

Family owned, warm-hearted, and real Italian food. We came here on two nights during our three-day trip to Pompeii. The first night we ordered pizza for take-out (margherita and capricciosa), which really lived up to our expectations of really good Italian pizza. The second night we were spoiled by the owner who served us such wonderful arancini gialli e rosse, fried pasta (a local specialty!), crocche, sth with eggplant, and a wonderful Neapolitan-style sandwich with meatballs. Everything was crazy-delicious, and we’d be happy to go here again should we ever return to Pompeii. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of the starters, but trust me, they’re really yum!!

Absolutely the best pizza I’ve ever had – even better than in Naples! The crust was absolute perfection — light, crisp, and flavorful. Every bite was delicious, and I couldn’t stop until I’d eaten the entire thing. The ingredients tasted so fresh, and you can really tell they put care into every pizza they make. If you’re anywhere near Pompeii, do yourself a favor and stop here. Highly, highly recommend!

We ate here prior to going into the archeological park of Pompeii. We had two pizzas that were both delicious. The server was very friendly. She spoke only Italian and us English but we communicated without issues. We had a quattro formaggio although our kids were not used to the blue cheese on it and a pizza with pancetta and aubergine/eggplant. Crust was delightful. The shop is very small but very hospitable with very tasty food and friendly service.

Tourists are missing out on this amazing place close to the Archeological site. After eating here you can go straight to the Pompeii site because of the direct entrance. I was lucky to know about this place because some polish travellers at our resort told us about it. The menu is really creative, prices are amazing and the food is so so good.

Excellent local restaurant! The food was great at great prices. Just be aware that no one there speaks english so you will have to communicate with your hands and feet:d Definitely go here if you are in Pompeii!
